Our Govt - LOL

I must blog this out as it appeared real funny.

An excerpt of the news today:

The state government has defended the purchase of 14 Mercedes E200 Kompressor cars at RM3.43mil for the use of its state executive councillors and senior officials.

Mentri Besar (state governor) Datuk X said the state government had planned to purchase the cars for a long time now to replace its Proton Perdana V6 Executive (locally made luxury car) fleet in a move to cut cost.

“Please understand that the Proton Perdanas go through continuous long-distance journeys. It’s costing us a lot of money due to high cost of maintenance.

“We are not saying that the national car is not good but in reality we are coughing up more money for maintaining the Proton Perdanas, particularly the gear boxes,” he said.

Datuk X cited the example of the Proton Perdana of state Commerce, Industry and Environment committee chairman Toh Chin Yaw, which has twice undergone expensive repairs costing RM50,000 within 36 months.

[ this is the most exciting part of all when it was made to public. Here it goes ]
“In the long run, Mercedes cars are cheaper to maintain and could also save us fuel costs. [LOL]

“This is the state’s long-term plan – we are farsighted. [LMAO!]The cars could also fetch a high market price, when sold as second-hand cars.

“We studied all angles before deciding to buy the Mercedes E200 cars,” he added. [LOLOL!]

Datuk X also denied that the oil royalty money was used to buy the cars.

“In the first place we have yet to receive the oil royalties from the Federal Government.

Comments: Crap! He meant everyone in this world been thinking in short runs. I am thinking in a short run, you are thinking in a short run, and you know what, you are Shortsighted! I don't think his team made a study on the costs and if they did, his team never studied in school. An amazing statement made public by head of a state of Malaysia and the people paid taxes for their 'well-studied' cost budgeting flaw. Even a child knows Mercedes costs run higher than local cars. Only if the Merc are smuggled or replica and he services the Merc himself periodically to save maintenance costs... Only if... but not going to be true... this is Merc Kompressor!

So, there goes the people's money and taxes due to inefficiency of the government's management... Simple to say, stupid! LOL

Cheers!

You Joke, I Lough

Bank Negara says H & I Niaga qualifies

BANK Negara (Central Reserve Bank) said the decision to award the tender to build the Financial Services Resources Centre was based on the most competitive bid.

In a statement, the central bank said the criteria included the tender price, track record, financial capability, quality, and technical and commercial capabilities of the team that was put together to complete the project. All tenders were reviewed to determine the most competitive bid and the company selected, H & I Niaga Sdn Bhd, is qualified to complete the project within Bank Negara's specifications, it said.

It said the construction will begin in November for completion within two years. “Bank Negara upholds the highest standards of governance in our conduct and we view seriously recent media reports regarding the award for the construction of the centre,” it said. The award of the RM320mil contract to the low profile H & I Niaga surprised some parties as it beat many well-known groups such as Ranhill Bhd.

According to recent reports, H & I Niaga, a class A contractor, had failed to file accounts for the financial years 2002, 2003 and 2004. It last submitted accounts for the financial year ended Dec 31, 2001, which showed that its net profit was RM14,500. – Bernama

Sometimes I read a few newspaper articles that are so concise, yet so "informative", just like the one above. How can the country's Central Bank may had reviewed all of the other tenders, before coming to the decision of giving the tender opportunity to H & I Niaga, yet H & I Niaga did not comply to the law. Will it be other tenders did not submit their accounts since year 2000? What? How? Why?

It's Damn Funny! But You Will Not Lough

If you did read on newspapers lately, you may have encountered an article published on Wednesday, June 1st that tickled my loughing nerves. Remember there was one article couple of months ago about a cabinet minister critisizing some other cabinet ministers to better keep their mouth shut, than to reveal their stupidity to others in cabinet meetings to discuss about the nation's current issues. Followed by the cabinet minister's critisism, his opinion was greatly opposed by other cabinet ministers, as expected. Therefore, stupid ideas are still voiced out in the cabinet's meeting (called Dewan Rakyat) every week and month then. Finally, one of it has been revealed. Excerpts of the recent newspaper article:

KUALA LUMPUR: Movie-goers may have to stand up and sing the national anthem before the start of the film as a mark of respect and appreciate the Negaraku campaign conducted by the Information Ministry.

Ministry secretary-general Datuk Seri Dr (*Censored) said cinemas were being encouraged to play the anthem after all commercials and movie trailers were shown.

“It’s not compulsory. The Government does not want to be regimental about it. But we are encouraging it and hopefully, it will be carried out willingly,” he told reporters after singing Negaraku with Bernama staff in an assembly at their office here yesterday.

Dr (*Censored) said that playing the national anthem was also encouraged at entertainment centres, before morning assemblies at kindergartens, schools and private institutions of higher learning, and “before baca doa (prayers) at Government offices with piped-in music.”

The campaign, Dr (*Censored) said, was also to evoke a sense of patriotism and sense of pride in Malaysians.

“We need to acculturate the citizens to always stand at attention and sing along proudly.

“The respect and appreciation for the national anthem is waning and the blame is on us if the future generation can’t sing Negaraku,” he added.

Imagine a situation of this:
I am here to watch Star Wars last episode. I booked the tickets, I arrive at least 45 minutes before the show. My friends did not book the ticket arrive 1 hour earlier because of the queues. Having to wait 1 hour is not a big deal to catch the show. Yeah, no doubt there are alot of advertisements before the show too. I expect the ads cost 15-20 minutes of my time. So I got in the cinema on time, waited the ads to pass for 20 minutes and voila...

Everyone seemed busy putting their things, some already stood up, lights on, holding my pop corn, my Coke left on the seat, one of my hand still holding my girlfriend. I see some yellow-haired musketeers are still sitting, some are leaning against the wall, some couples are hugging each other, few couples walking the stairways stood at their position, some stood lazily, some digging their nose, some playing the handphones, some loughs and whispering to each other, also I heard and smell somebody eating Twisties behind me, yummmm, as the sound of drums came........

Negaraku (My Country)
Tanah tumpahnya darahku (Land where my blood pours)
Rakyat hidup (People living..)
Bersatu dan maju (United and developed)
Rahmat bahgia (*I have no idea what this means)
Tuhan kurniakan (Given by God)
Raja kita (Our King)
Selamat bertakhta (Safely on His throne)

Rahmat bahgia
Tuhan kurniakan
Raja kita
Selamat bertakhta"

There goes the national anthem, as I look at a Western couple in front of me, I wonder what is in their minds the moment they see everyone is standing. I hope it will not be like this:

"What the hell is everyone doing? What are they singing? But what I know is that the drums in the music rocks!"

This is not a critism of patriotism, but as a Malaysian citizen, I do not want my own country's image to be like this kind, in the eyes of the world.

Don't Just "Swamp" Here, "Swamp" There!

Inland Revenue Board of Malaysia (IRB) peak periods, which are the 4 or 5 days prior to the submission deadline 30th April 2005, we will see them working until 10pm even on Saturday. As this is concerned, peak periods for taxation firms as well as audit will see its employees staying in the office until the average time of 10pm-11pm everyday for 3 months, consecutively. In these dying days of the 3 months rushing up workpapers for the clients and the IRB, some of the accounting firms employees suffered various negative effects. Eyes blurred because of high concentration of working papers and computers, anxiety, occasional nausea, fever, migranes because of thinking too much, occasional moodswings, very demotivated, sleepless nights (those who worried too much), nightmares and something that I felt weird about - figure changes. Although the hazards may sound severe, but it's normal in accounting firms and great seniors should have already over it.

There are some of them who had no time for meals, therefore worsened their diets during peak periods, they lost weight - that's logical. However, some of them grew fatter! It was not that they have better time eating during work, or have had constant munchies during work, they did nothing extraordinary. Have you ever heard of people who is working hard brings prosper? How did they do that? ....Mesmerized.

Looking into current issue of submission of individual tax returns at IRB offices, news reported there were huge numbers of people "swamping the IRB offices" trying to submit their respective tax returns as early as 3 days before the due date.

Picture on Wednesday 28 Apr 2005 at an IRB office in Kelana Jaya, taken from The Star newspaper

IRB main submission centre/office at Pandan Indah, taken on Thursday 28 Apr 2005 by me

If you are submitting your tax returns, please "swamp" to IRB office at Pandan Indah 4th floor so that you can enjoy a peaceful environment there. Look at the picture - the woman with the IRB jacket and brown spotted baju kurung is supposed to guide people on directions, she was taking her time wandering around at the premise, I believed she was counting floor tiles. I spotted couple other staff counting floor tiles too but not captured in the picture. It seemed like it was a "supply over demand" there.

Funny but true, Malaysians are united. Anywhere's a hot place to be, it will be "swamped" by huge crowds all over the place. THAT'S THE SPIRIT! If you are the person that is scared to be alone, Malaysia is the right choice of country for you to live. Our culture is work hard to play hard - I think we are ...... swamps of intelligent bees!
